Baptism is God’s most beautiful and magnificent gift. It marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith. Through this first sacrament of initiation into the Catholic Church, your child begins a new life in Christ and becomes part of the Church community.
Through baptism:
Your child is freed from original sin
Your child becomes a child of God
Your child becomes a member of the Church
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
As parents, you are the first teachers of your child in the ways of faith.
By choosing baptism, you are committing to:
Raise your child in the Catholic faith
Model prayer, love, and Christian values
Bring your child to Mass regularly
Be an example of Christian living
Godparents support you in raising your child in the faith.
They must:
Be practising Catholics
Be role models of the faith
Help parents raise the child in the faith
You are not alone in this journey.
Your support comes from:
Parents (primary educators)
Godparents
Your parish community
Your family
At least one parent MUST be a Catholic
